What should i do about this guy I like?

Okay so i like this guy and I don't know what to do. He is one of my friends and he just broke up with his girlfriend about a month ago. I felt like it was to early to ask. The other day, I was home alone and a handyman came to fix a door. The handyman let himself in without me knowing. It was okay after a while because I knew him but I was still terrified because I was alone. So, I called up the guy I like and asked him to come over because he lives only a block or two away. He told me couldn't because didn't have a ride. I told him to walk but he said if I was in any real danger I would be dead by the time he got there. This upset me. Basically what I am saying is SHOULD I BOTHER LIKING THIS GUY?
