Was Jesus really a carpenter?

My priest (who studies the Bible and theology and all that good stuff) said that in Aramaic and Ancient Greek, the word they use for "carpenter" actually means something like "handyman". I looked it up and I read the same thing. So, was Jesus a carpenter or a handyman (like, the fix-it guy)? By the way, to the atheists, I know you don't think Jesus exists so please do not say so in the comments. I think He existed, you don't, and I'm cool with that.
