It may just be one receptacle in the duplex receptacle that is wired to the switch. I can't imagine anyone cutting holes in the wall and installing switches without connecting to control a circuit.

What should I do if I paid a DIY guy to do a job and it has not been fixed?

I saw an Ad. in a local magazine offering 'Handyman Services' so I called him out and asked him to see if he could fix my leaking porch roof. He got up there for a while and then said it was done to the best of his knowledge and I paid him �100. A week later it was dripping water again into my porch. It is still dripping. He has been back a couple of times and just looks at it and says wearily "well, I don't know how the water is getting in there". I'm sure he has done it to the best of his ability but he has not offered me my money back. If he doesn't give me my money back, what should I do?

I'm a handyman in Sydney Australia. I started work with no tools at all. when I get a job I ask what tools do I need? then I buy it . My point is there are millions of tools available .many of them are useful majority are not . I still buying good tools. I know tomorrow will be another tool is coming better and cheaper. My back windows wont go down.the motors was replaced already.what could it be?

The window could be jammed, the belt has gone or there are some faulty wirings or buttons, take it to a garage say that the motor has been replaced and they should be able to help, not to expensive either...
